Frequently Asked Questions

Vessels - Silicone, INVIVOTECH® and Clear

What are the wall thicknesses of the Silicone vessels?

Thoraco-Abdominal models are 2.5 mm , Intercranial vessels are between 1-1.5 mm with variations along the length, Venous models are 2 mm.

Can deployed devices be removed from Silicone vessels?

Yes, the vessel can either be sent back to Mentice for removal or device removal ports can be designed into the models for removal by the client.

Are the Silicone vessels physiologically relevant?

All intercranial vessels are based on patient specific data. All idealized models are based on literature values. All vasculature can be fabricated based on patient specific DICOM data.

Can detailed measurements be provided for Silicone vessels?

Yes, datasheets and additional measurements can be provided for any vasculature upon request.

Can a standard vessel be made into a RICA from a LICA or vice versa?

Yes, any of our standard models can be mirrored to the other side of the head.

Can the Silicone vessels be made thicker or thinner?

Yes, both dip-coated and larger vessels can vary be made thicker or thinner depending on a client’s need and manufacturability.

Can we provide an stl of the model?

Current policy is no we cannot provide an stl. There are some situations that warrant the sharing of an .stl, but they are handled directly with the company and a charge applies.

What is the shore hardness of the Silicone?

Thoraco-Abdominal models have a shore hardness range of 15 to 30 Shore A, Intracranial vessels are around 25 shore A and Venous models shore hardness are around 15 shore A

What are the tear strength and tensile strength of the Silicone?

Thoraco-Abdominal models are 60-65 pli and 320-700 psi respectively. Intracranial vessels are 125-150 pli and 1250-1500 psi respectively.

 Are the Silicone vessels translucent?

Yes, all our silicone vessels is translucent with a refractive index of 1.40.

How long do the Silicone vessels typically last?

Time can vary based on use cases but typically they last at least 1 year.

What type of files are able to be made into a vessel?

We can segment DICOM files from axial slices or modify stl, iges, or sldprt files to make vessels.

How accurate are the Silicone models compared to the design files?

Tolerances are usually around 0.3mm.

What is the smallest Silicone vessel diameter that can be produced?

For dip-coated vessels the smallest vessel diameter is 0.8 mm. For coreshell vessels the smallest vessel diameter is 2 mm.

What is anti-friction coating?

Anti-friction coating is a proprietary coating used to increase the lubricity of the silicone vessel to be more physiologically relevant.

How long does the coating last?

Coating duration can be variable depending on use case and number of uses but it will typically last 6 months (rough estimate).

Can Silicone vessels be re-coated?

Yes, vessels can be sent back to be recoated for a charge.

Is there a visual indication for when the coating is wearing down?

There is not a visual indication but if you rub the vessel between two fingers and it starts to stick then the coating is likely wearing down.

Can you control the level of coating?

There can be levels of coating, we can have a lighter coating or a thicker coating depending on the client’s specification.

What pressures are seen in the systems?

We typically observe physiological pressures between 80-120 mmHg. Some of our systems can reach and handle 180mmHg.

Where can the system be accessed from?

We used femoral access as a standard but also offer radial and carotid access depending on the system. Custom access can be created.

How are the Silicone vessels supported in 3D space?

The vessels are supported through a combination of plastic terrains that the vessels rest on and hard resin support parts that support the carotid and aortic root segments.

What parameters can be controlled in the systems?

It varies between system but most of the systems can control flow, pressure and heart rate.

INVIVOTECH® and Clear Cartridges

What are INVIVOTECH® and Clear cartridges?

INVIVOTECH® is a proprietary 3D printing material that combines soft and rigid materials at the microscopic level to simulate realistic mechanical vessel behavior under imaging.

Clear cartridges are 3D printed using a transparent material that allows for direct visualization of catheter and device movement—ideal for training outside of the Cath lab.

Which systems are compatible with INVIVOTECH® and Clear cartridges?

These cartridges are designed exclusively for the EVIAS+ system and are not compatible with Agility Flow or SIMplicity Flow.

Can INVIVOTECH® or Clear cartridges be reused?

We do not recommend repeated use of INVIVOTECH® or Clear cartridges for device deployment.

While the materials can tolerate limited handling, these cartridges are primarily intended for single-use or short-term procedural demonstrations. Repeated use, especially involving device deployment - can compromise anatomical integrity and simulation quality.

Are the cartridges physiologically realistic?

Yes. INVIVOTECH® especially is engineered for mechanical realism and responds similarly to human vasculature under device interaction and contrast injection.

Clear cartridges offer visual realism, not mechanical feedback.

Are the cartridges translucent?

Clear: Fully transparent for direct visual observation.

INVIVOTECH®: Semi-transparent and compatible with contrast agents and fluoroscopy.

What is the lead time for cartridge orders?

  • INVIVOTECH® and Clear cartridges: Delivered within 5 business days
  • REFLEX Silicone cartridges: Delivered within 10 business days

Can Clear and INVIVOTECH® cartridges be customized?

Yes, both INVIVOTECH® and Clear cartridges can be customized based on CT/MRI/DICOM or STL files. Pre-designed options are also available in our large anatomy library.

Can INVIVOTECH® and Clear cartridges be re-coated or repaired?

No, these cartridges do not support re-coating or refurbishment. If damaged, they should be replaced.

Are there differences in tactile feedback?

Yes.

  • INVIVOTECH® provides moderate tactile feedback—not as realistic as REFLEX Silicone but better than Clear.
  • Clear provides no tactile feedback, as its purpose is visualization only.

Do INVIVOTECH® or Clear cartridges require special care?

  • Avoid dropping or overflexing the cartridges.
  • Store in a dry, dust-free environment.
  • Do not use aggressive cleaning agents; rinse with water or system-compatible fluid only.

Consumables

What is the viscosity of replicator fluid?

Replicator fluid is designed to match the viscosity of blood at 3.7 cP.

What is the shelf-life of thrombus?

In bulk thrombus will last up to 3 months, in the syringes the thrombus lasts 1-2 weeks

Can thrombus be rehydrated?

No, once the thrombus dries out it will no longer be useable.

Are there different hardness of thrombus?

Currently the standard configuration is soft thrombus with fibers. There is also a hard formulation.
